A Grand Tanjore Painting of Lord Shri Ram

To Become a Major Attraction of the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya

In Ayodhya, devotees visiting the Shri Ram Temple will now find it hard to resist admiring, along with the darshan of Shri Ram Lalla, a massive Tanjore-style painting of Lord Shri Ram brought from Bengaluru. Measuring approximately 12 feet in height and 8 feet in width, this artwork is created on a gold base and embellished with inlay work of precious and semi-precious stones, giving it exceptional artistic and heritage value. This sacred artwork has been donated to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra in Ayodhya by Mrs. Jayashree Phanish of Bengaluru. Created in the traditional Tanjore art style, the painting is an invaluable cultural masterpiece. The artwork weighs approximately eight kilograms.

This magnificent creation has been crafted by the renowned Bengaluru-based artist Mrs. Jayashree Phanish. She is well known for her mastery of traditional Tanjore techniques as well as for her creative vision rooted in cultural consciousness. This artwork was not created for commercial purposes but was specially prepared for the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra. The Tanjore style maintains a balance between royal grandeur and spiritual authority. When Lord Shri Ram is depicted in this style, it conveys a cultural message that blends opulence with dignity, restraint, and righteousness—highlighting the core spirit of Shri Ram’s ideal concept of Ram Rajya. In this artwork, the serene countenance of Lord Shri Ram, His steady gaze, and His composed posture holding the bow and arrow signify that the highest form of power is not aggressive, but restrained and dignified.

A 1,900-Kilometre Journey in Six Days

The responsibility of safely transporting this massive painting of Lord Shri Ram from Bengaluru to Ayodhya was efficiently fulfilled by the Department of Posts. To ensure maximum security, the artwork was professionally packed in a specially designed wooden crate with multiple layers of bubble wrapping. The consignment was transported under continuous surveillance, with departmental officers accompanying the vehicle throughout the journey.

The vehicle carrying the artwork departed from Bengaluru on 17 December 2025 and, after covering a distance of approximately 1,900 kilometres, reached Ayodhya safely on 22 December 2025. The processes of loading and unloading the painting were carried out with utmost care using cranes and special equipment. This consignment is the first of its kind involving high-value logistics handled by the postal department, successfully completed through effective coordination among several postal circles, including Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Divisional heads and senior postal officials closely monitored the transportation of the artwork along the Bengaluru–Hyderabad–Nagpur–Jabalpur–Rewa–Prayagraj–Ayodhya route.

Despite dense fog during the final leg of the journey, the consignment was delivered to its destination safely and smoothly with extreme caution. Upon the artwork’s arrival in Ayodhya, the painting was formally handed over to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra in the presence of its General Secretary, Shri Champat Rai, and has since been installed by the Teerth Kshetra administration.
