Know… Why Did the NCC Organize a Cycle Expedition?

The great Maratha warrior Bajirao Peshwa I undertook a historic journey from Pune to Delhi in 1736. During this expedition, he defeated the Mughals, the Portuguese, and the Nizam in 41 battles. To commemorate that memorable journey and to spread the saga of Bajirao Peshwa’s bravery among the masses, the National Cadet Corps (NCC), under the NCC Group Headquarters, Amravati Group, organized a cycle expedition.

The expedition commenced from Shaniwar Wada in Pune on December 24 and reached Sendhwa, located on the Maharashtra–Madhya Pradesh border, today, Sunday, December 28. The NCC cadets participating in the cycle expedition will reach Delhi on January 27 next month, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the NCC PM Rally Cycle Expedition.

Under the theme “Steps of Valor Towards a Revolution,” the NCC PM Cycle Expedition team was welcomed in Sendhwa by the local administration, including SDM Ashish, Tehsildar Rahul Solanki, and Lieutenant Sanjay Chauhan of NCC Madhya Pradesh 9 Battalion, PG College. Other personnel of Madhya Pradesh NCC Navi Battalion and several prominent citizens of the city were also present on the occasion.

The cycle expedition includes 6 SD Boys cadets and 6 SW Girls cadets, along with Team Leader Brigadier Sachin Gawli and Colonel Vijay. Havaldar Tikaram is also participating as a cyclist.

NCC Junior Under Officer Khushboo informed that the expedition, which began from Shaniwar Wada, Pune on December 24 with the objective of highlighting the history of Peshwa Bajirao I, will conclude in Delhi on January 27. Lieutenant Sanjay Chauhan of the NCC unit at Government Veer Balidani Khajya Naik College, Sendhwa, stated that Bajirao Peshwa I had traveled from Pune to Delhi in 1736 and during this journey defeated the Mughals, Portuguese, and the Nizam in 41 battles. To remember the great warrior and to retrace his historic route, the NCC Group Headquarters, Amravati Group, Maharashtra, has organized this expedition.

Today in Sendhwa, NCC cadets of Government Veer Balidani Khajya Naik College also staged a street play depicting the saga of the battle fought in Bhopal. After an overnight halt in Sendhwa, the NCC officers and cadets participating in the cycle expedition will depart for the next destination on Monday, December 29.
