Timely Treatment is Key to Stroke Prevention: Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh

Bhopal. In observance of World Stroke Day, AIIMS Bhopal hosted an awareness programme today, focusing on the critical need for timely identification and treatment of stroke. The event aimed to educate the public on stroke prevention, early detection, and the importance of prompt medical care to reduce its impact. Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, highlighted the severity of stroke as a health concern, stating, "Stroke is the third leading cause of morbidity globally. The key to reducing its impact is timely medical care. If the patient reaches the hospital on time, the chances of a positive outcome increase significantly. I urge everyone to spread awareness about stroke treatment in their surroundings. Avoid visiting uncertified practitioners or 'tantriks.' Timely medical care is key to saving lives." Prof. Singh also took the opportunity to interact with stroke patients, who shared their experiences regarding their treatment journey and recovery.

The programme featured an insightful presentation by Dr. Agrata Sharma, who discussed the leading causes of stroke, including high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, and unhealthy lifestyle choices. Dr. Sharma emphasized the alarming statistic that a person dies from a stroke every two minutes, underscoring the urgent need for increased awareness and preventive measures.

To reinforce the importance of early stroke recognition, a skit was performed during the event. The skit depicted the critical symptoms of stroke—such as sudden weakness or numbness, difficulty in speaking, and loss of balance—and demonstrated the life-saving difference that prompt medical intervention can make.

The event was attended by a large number of faculty members, residents, nursing staff, and patients, reflecting the institution's ongoing commitment to advancing stroke care. By educating the community, AIIMS Bhopal aims to reduce the burden of this serious health issue and improve health outcomes for stroke patients across the region.

The programme not only raised public awareness but also reinforced AIIMS Bhopal’s dedication to enhancing healthcare services and providing comprehensive stroke treatment to save lives.
