AIIMS Bhopal Performs Complex Surgery to Remove

Life-Threatening Heart Clots, Giving Patient a New Life

Bhopal. The Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) at AIIMS Bhopal successfully performed a complex cardiac surgery, giving a new life to a patient suffering from a serious illness. Through this surgery, a 30-year-old patient from Hoshangabad was treated, who had been suffering from severe health problems for the past six months. The patient had a history of heart attack, paralysis, and kidney dysfunction. In addition, several large clots were present in the left side of the heart (left ventricle), and the heart was also weak. Due to these clots in the heart, the patient suffered a heart attack nearly six months ago. Subsequently, about 20 days ago, the kidney artery became blocked, and he also developed paralysis. Despite receiving treatment at various places, the patient did not get relief. Considering the severity and complexity of the condition, he was referred to AIIMS Bhopal.

After detailed evaluation in the CTVS Department at AIIMS Bhopal, the experts decided to proceed with surgery. Investigations revealed the presence of multiple mobile clots in the left side of the heart (left ventricle), which posed a high risk of traveling to other organs and causing paralysis or even death. A team of expert doctors performed a complex open-heart surgery known as left ventricular thrombectomy. During the procedure, all the clots present in the heart were successfully removed, thereby preventing the risk of stroke and other serious complications in the future. After surgery, the patient was kept in the ICU, where his condition remained stable, and he was later shifted to the ward. At present, the patient is completely healthy.

This complex surgery was performed under the supervision of Dr. Yogesh Niwariya, Head of the CTVS Department. The surgical team included Dr. M. Kishan, Dr. Surendra Singh Yadav, Dr. Rahul Sharma, Dr. Vikram Watti, and Dr. Aditya Sirohi. From the Department of Anaesthesia, Dr. Harish provided important support during the surgery. This achievement reflects the capability of AIIMS Bhopal to provide advanced treatment for serious and complex diseases. On this occasion, Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Madhabananda Kar stated that patients will no longer need to go outside for the treatment of such serious illnesses. With advanced facilities and expert doctors at AIIMS Bhopal, effective treatment of even the most complex diseases is now possible.
