Rollout Ceremony of SUGAM Model: A Family-Planning Awareness Initiative at AIIMS Bhopal
In alignment with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India’s initiative to promote family planning, AIIMS Bhopal hosted the rollout ceremony of the SUGAM Model recently, aimed at increasing awareness around family planning options under the theme “Healthy Timing & Spacing of Pregnancies for the Wellbeing of Mother and Child”.
On this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, "Family planning is integral to the health and well-being of both mothers and children. The SUGAM Model is a groundbreaking step towards making vital information about contraception easily accessible to the public, fostering shared responsibility among men and women. At AIIMS Bhopal, we are proud to implement this model and contribute to building a healthier, more informed society."
The event also celebrated a remarkable achievement by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at AIIMS Bhopal, which crossed 300 successful deliveries in August 2024. Prof. (Dr.) Pushpalatha K, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, expressed her appreciation, saying, "This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of our entire team. We are committed to continuing to provide the best possible care to our patients and supporting family planning initiatives like the SUGAM Model, which will have a positive impact on maternal and child health."
The SUGAM Model, launched by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, on World Population Day is designed to enhance understanding of contraceptive choices, promote the National Family Planning Helpline (1800-11-6555), and encourage equal participation of both men and women in family planning decisions.
The model will be displayed prominently across high-footfall areas of AIIMS Bhopal, such as OPD waiting areas, ANC clinics, postnatal wards, family planning OPDs, and immunization clinics, ensuring effective dissemination of crucial family planning information. This initiative is part of the month-long World Population Day campaign.
The SUGAM Model rollout is expected to enhance awareness and encourage the adoption of family planning practices, contributing to the overall health and development of families.
